Children's Art Hanger

I made something like this for my two daughter's but stenciled their names on some years ago of which was before the age of the Cricut, personal cutter system.  With the use of a Cricut, you can get crazy and make all types of designs and not have to worry about the splattering of paint, smudging paint lines or making a mistake that you need to figure out how to cover.

Supply List:

  • Modge Podge
  • Paint Brush, craft paint
  • Craft Paint
  • 3 - 4 Miniature Clothespins
  • Ribbon of choice (minimum 24")
  • Embellishments
  • Coordinating paper
  • Cricut fonts or stickers
  • Hot glue gun or wood glue
  • Stapler
  • Craft wood (pictured 2' x 4")

Start off by painting your craft board the coordinating color of choice along with the miniature clothespins.

While the paint is drying, use your Cricut to cut out wording (in this case, I used "Ally's Art").  I used a solid sheet for the background color  and a coordinating pattern paper for the forefront wording.  The letters used in this project were 3" large and I used alphalicious font

Priot to slapping down the modge podge, line up how you want your letters on the work surface.

After you have determined spacing, begin the modge podge process... I work quickly, efficiently and try to catch any loose bristles that may get stuck on the project.  Paint a small layer of modge podge, lay down your letter(s) and then paint a thing layer of modge podge over the freshly laid down letter to seal it.  Smooth out any wrinkles, bumps or sections that are lifting.

After you have painted the first layer and it has dried, begin adding the second layer of paper letters.  Or if you are looking for a simple sign, you could stop and skip to the next step.

Grab the heated up glue gun or wood glue, place a small layer of glue on the miniature clothes pin and place.  For this sign, I used 3 clothes pins of which will allow for three separate hanging areas.

Measure your ribbon and grab the stapler gun.  You could also hot glue the ribbon to the back of the board.   I twisted the ribbon to make it hang properly.   For cleaner lines or maybe your project will hang below a shelf, you can use a picture hanger on the back as well.

The finished project is a cute little art hanger for the wall... where your toddler or elementary aged child can proudly display all of his or her Monets.
